Seven Treasures and The White Fox

40.6 ×40.6 cm - 2025Inspired by the mythology of the Kitsune, the White Fox, this painting reflects its role in Japanese folklore as a divine messenger and symbol of prosperity.
The mask is paired with the traditional Shippo‑tsunagi pattern — the “Seven Treasures” motif — to express harmony, spiritual richness, and a gentle blessing for the viewer’s space.

The goal was to go beyond a simple landscape by incorporating the ancient Seigaiha (Blue Ocean Wave) pattern.
This traditional motif—symbolizing good fortune and resilience—gives the painting a profound, cultural layer of meaning, contrasting the realistic subject with stylized, graphic design.

34 x 34 cm - 2025Inspired by the fierce, expressive faces of Japan’s iconic Nebuta Festival, this painting is a personal interpretation born from curiosity, admiration, and a desire to connect with ancestral stories — even though I have never attended the festival myself.
The imagined oni mask captures transformation and dramatic emotion, while the bold kanji “魂” (tamashii, soul) anchors the piece. Together, they channel the mystery, intensity, and vibrant energy of Japanese folklore.
